Farid ud-Din Attar<\/strong> (~1157 – ~1220), renowned Persian Sufi poet and mystic, left a legacy of masterpieces exploring spirituality and the search for truth. His most famous work, The Conference of the Birds<\/em><\/strong>, is a poetic allegory about the spiritual journey. A man of deep faith and devotion, Attar dedicated his life to seeking union with the divine, inspiring generations with his writings filled with spiritual depth and poetic beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Valley of Bewilderment<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next comes the Valley of Bewilderment,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A place of pain and gnawing discontent \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each second you will sigh, and every breath<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will be a sword to make you long for death;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinded by grief, you will not recognize<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The days and nights that pass before your eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blood drips from every hair and writes \u201cAlas\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beside the highway where the pilgrims pass;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In ice you fry, in fire you freeze \u2013 the Way<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is lost, with indecisive steps you stray \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Unity you knew has gone; your soul<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is scattered and knows nothing of the Whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If someone asks: \u201cWhat is your present state;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is drunkenness or sober sense your fate,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And do you flourish now or fade away?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pilgrim will confess: \u201cI cannot say;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have no certain knowledge any more;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I doubt my doubt, doubt itself is unsure;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love, but who is it for whom I sigh?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not Moslem, yet not heathen; who am I?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My heart is empty, yet with love is full;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My own love is to me incredible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
