Meditation<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n
<\/div>\n\n

I sit in the shade of the oak tree,<\/p>\n\n

watching deep water bathe <\/p>\n\n

the river bank.<\/p>\n\n

A ripple tickles the surface,<\/p>\n\n

where a fish darts upward<\/p>\n\n

to kiss the sky.<\/p>\n\n

The middle of the river <\/p>\n\n

gushes downstream <\/p>\n\n

in its journey toward the sea.<\/p>\n\n

Sun\u2019s warmth and a cool breeze<\/p>\n\n

nuzzle my cheeks. With eyes closed, <\/p>\n\n

my look turns inward.<\/p>\n\n

I gather myself to search<\/p>\n\n

for stillness, forgiving <\/p>\n\n

but not following the errant thoughts <\/p>\n\n

that flit like minnows through <\/p>\n\n

the depths of my mind, then come to rest, <\/p>\n\n

when silence stills the waters.<\/p>\n\n

<\/em>Magic<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n
<\/div>\n\n

Those who don’t believe in magic <\/em><\/p>\n\n

Step out of your past<\/p>\n\n

into the mystery of today<\/p>\n\n

and you will find magic<\/p>\n\n

at every new step.<\/p>\n\n

Take a deep breath. <\/p>\n\n

Open your eyes to what is <\/p>\n\n

in front of you at this moment,<\/p>\n\n

whether it be joy or sorrow,<\/p>\n\n

it is still magic in its newness.<\/p>\n\n

Believe in such a possibility<\/p>\n\n

and you will be bathed <\/p>\n\n

in now<\/em>\u2014all that has not<\/p>\n\n

been before and will <\/p>\n\n

never be again. <\/p>\n\n

This is magic.<\/p>\n\n

Here I Am Waiting Again<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n
<\/div>\n\n

for a moment<\/p>\n\n

in the future<\/p>\n\n

to become the moment<\/p>\n\n

now.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

Aflutter in my abdomen,<\/p>\n\n

a clench in my brain<\/p>\n\n

afloat in conjectures\u2014<\/p>\n\n

what if,<\/p>\n\n

will this really <\/p>\n\n

be what I want? <\/p>\n\n

A more mature<\/p>\n\n

thought appears,<\/p>\n\n

if I can listen <\/p>\n\n

to its wisdom:<\/p>\n\n

waiting does not <\/em><\/p>\n\n

have to be <\/em><\/p>\n\n

hovering in the <\/em><\/p>\n\n

never now<\/em><\/p>\n\n

of in between<\/em><\/p>\n\n

for something <\/em><\/p>\n\n

that is not yet.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

To wait is <\/em><\/p>\n\n

to ask myself<\/em><\/p>\n\n

what is in front<\/em><\/p>\n\n

of me in this <\/em><\/p>\n\n

very moment\u2014<\/em><\/p>\n\n

to write this poem,<\/em><\/p>\n\n

perhaps<\/em><\/p>\n\n

to stroke the cat.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

It\u2019s a challenge<\/p>\n\n

to be here where<\/p>\n\n

each breath in and out<\/p>\n\n

is an ever-potent reminder<\/p>\n\n

that there is nothing<\/p>\n\n

more important<\/p>\n\n

than now.<\/em><\/p>\n\n
