Through poetry, the spirit finds a space to express its longings, doubts, fears, and revelations, going beyond the everyday experience, beyond the ordinary mind, as Buddhists would say, to connect with something greater or deeper than the self and in some way, touch our ultimate essence. In many cases, as in the four poems by contemporary writers included here, the word\u2014which is not the experience itself but points to it\u2014builds a bridge going deeper and letting us access moments of spiritual contemplation. The traditions in which she has trained are Zen and Advaita Vedanta. Dorothy teaches about consciousness, presence, and non-duality, and her poetry reflects her deep exploration in these fields.   <\/em><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Peace is this Moment without Judgment<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer sc_height_small\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Do you think peace requires an end to war?<br\/>Or tigers eating only vegetables?<br\/>Does peace require an absence from<\/p>\n\n<p>your boss, your spouse, yourself?<br\/>Do you think peace will come some other place than here?<br\/>Some other time than now?<br\/>In some other heart than yours?<\/p>\n\n<p>Peace is this moment without judgment.<br\/>That is all. She won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Her meditative style made her one of the most read poets in the United States.   <\/em><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I Worried<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer sc_height_small\"><\/div>\n\n<p>I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers <\/p>\n\n<p>flow in the right direction, will the earth turn <\/p>\n\n<p>as it was taught, and if not how shall<br\/>I correct it?<\/p>\n\n<p>Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,<br\/>can I do better?<br\/>Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows<br\/>can do it and I am, well,<br\/>hopeless.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,<br\/>am I going to get rheumatism,<br\/>lockjaw, dementia?<\/p>\n\n<p>Finally, I saw that worrying had come to nothing.<br\/>And gave it up. She is known as a poet and writer of texts on meditation and mindfulness. In his poems, he writes about life, resilience, and spirituality. His books have inspired many people on their journey of self-discovery and spiritual seeking.   <\/em><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Below our strangeness<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer sc_height_small\"><\/div>\n\n<p>My soul tells me, we were<br\/>all broken from the same nameless heart, <br\/>and every living thing<br\/>wakes with a piece of that original <\/p>\n\n<p>heart aching its way into blossom.<\/p>\n\n<p>This is why we know each other<br\/>below our strangeness, why when <\/p>\n\n<p>we fall, we lift each other, or when <\/p>\n\n<p>in pain, we hold each other, why<\/p>\n\n<p>when sudden with joy, we dance<br\/>together.
